Railbuddies is a new social application aimed at railway travellers within the United Kingdom.
After alot of hard work, we are now happy to launch Railbuddies for beta testing.
What does it do?
Railbuddies has the following features:
- Find any train from the Network Rail Timetable
- Add yourself as a traveller on that train
- 'Checkin' on a train to show that you are currently on board
- Post messages on the train profile along with other passengers
- Depending on privacy settings, you can view other Railbuddies users who are passengers on the train
- Post on users profiles
- View the real-time location of a train
- View the trains previous locations (coming soon)
- Become 'Buddies' with passengers on your trains.
- View posts on a trains profile before you board the train. Find out why it's late, what the gossip is or ask your 'Buddy' to save you a seat!
How does it do it?
Combining railway timetable data, geolocation technology and some web-trickery Railbuddies allows passengers to find the trains that they travel on and check in.
Once checked in location updates will be sent from the users browser updating the location of the train. These are anonymous so nobody will be able to find out what updates you have made.
If a user wishes, they can allow Railbuddies to update their location and show it on their profile. This is on an opt-in basis.
It's a work in progress
Railbuddies is still in beta. This means we are still testing it and adding functionality. Please let us know if you have any issues, ideas or just want to say hello.
Expect new features to be added in the coming months. We have lots of ideas and want to get them in place as soon as possible.
We hope everyone enjoys using it!
